Tin Corner Farm Horse Camp 2007
Our 2007 Horse Camp will consist of the following programs:
General Horsemanship Level One
Price: $400. For new riders ages 8-16
Mounted skills:
- Mount and dismount
- Start, stop and steer
- Proper position
- Ring etiquette
- Introduction of half seat to help with leg position.
Unmounted skills:
- Approach, catch and halter the horse
- Leading, tie and crosstie
- Grooming
- Saddling
- Safely going through gates and doors
- General horsemanship
- Horses as prey. How to act around horses and why.
- General care: stalls, bedding, hay, grain, water.
- Some very basic first aid
Sample schedule:
Monday:
- 8:00 am: arrive and go over the schedule for the day and week
Rules in the barn. Receive horse assignments. (May be assigned to care for a horse different from the one they will ride.)
- 8:30 am: first unmounted lesson on how to act around horses and why.
- 9:00 am: Chores. Clean stall, rinse and fill water bucket, set up hay and grain for evening. Make sure horse has water outside
- 10:00 am: First lesson with a horse. Catching, haltering, tying, leading, grooming.
- 11:00 am: Lunch
- 12:00 pm: First tack up
- 12:30 pm: First mounted lesson group 1
- 1:00 pm: First mounted lesson group 2
- 1:30 pm: Mounted lesson group 1
- 2:00 pm: Mounted lesson group 2
- 2:30 pm : Untack and put horses away for the day
- 3:00 pm: Pick up
Tuesday- Friday:
- 8:00 am: Chores
- 9:00 am: Tack up
- 9:30 am: Mounted Lesson Group 1
- 10:30 am: Mounted Lesson Group 2
- 11:30 am: Lunch
- 12:30 pm: Tack up
- 1:00 pm: Games on horseback
- 2:30 pm: Untack and put horses away for the day

General Horsemanship Level Two
Price: $400. For beginner riders, ages 8-16 ready to trot or those trotting and not yet ready to canter. Riders must have completed level 1 or equivalent.
Mounted skills:
- Posting trot
- ½ seat
- Sitting trot
- Trail ride on Friday
Unmounted skills:
- Grooming and bathing
- Hoof dressing
- Use of fly spray
- Bridling
- Showmanship
Sample Daily Schedule:
- 8:00 am: Chores
- 9:00 am: Tack up
- 9:30 am: Mounted Lesson Group 1
- 10:30 am: Mounted Lesson Group 2
- 11:30 am: Lunch
- 12:30 pm: Tack up
- 1:00 pm: Games on horseback
- 2:30 pm: Untack and put horses away for the day

"So you want your own horse?"
Price: $400. Open to students ages 12-16, who, at least, have a solid walk trot and are ready to canter. Riders must take at least one lesson ahead of time to obtain approval to participate in this program.

Ready… Set… Show!
Price: $600. Open to riders ages 10-16. The goal of this week is to prepare for and compete in an open show at the end of the week (probably on Sunday at Belknap Fairgrounds). The price of the show, trailering, etc. is included in the price for the week.

- Braiding

General skills:
- Planning: what to take
- First aid kit
- What to wear
- Entry forms and discussion of what the classes are, etc.

Trail Riding
Price: $500. Open to riders ages 12-16 who have a solid walk/trot and can canter with some confidence. Riders must take at least one lesson ahead of time to obtain approval to participate in this program.

- Riding on uneven terrain and other obstacles
Unmounted skills
- Saddlebags
- Other gear needed
- Planning your route
- Rules of the trail/road
- Care of horse at trail head, etc.
Possible Schedule
- Monday: Morning lesson in the ring and assessment of horse assignments and short trail ride in the afternoon.
- Tuesday: Up the street to snowmobile trails
- Wednesday: Long loop from farm
- Thursday: Kathy’s
- Friday: Old Hill Village (Hill Side)
